* Type III Construction
* Footprint SQ FT = Address 217 is approximately 3618 (+/-) square feet
Address 221 is approximately 3687 (+/-) square feet
The majority of building is under renovation
* Floors above grade = 217 3 stories with a height of 44.7’, 221 5 stories with a height of 67.8’
* Floors below grade = 1 below each side

4- Fire Protection Systems to be installed:
* Installation of Fire Detection System by code and regulations as required.
5– Design Methodology:
Installation of required initiating devices, including smoke detectors and manual pull stations. The system will also
monitor the sprinkler system for water flow and supervise valves as required. The installation will include audio-visual
and visual devices as required. The system will report to private Central Station for means of notification as required.
6-Code References:
* Design and installation to conform to NFPA 72-2013, NFPA-70 2017, 780 CMR 9th edition, NFPA 1/ 527 CMR 2015
* Design and installation to conform to State Code, Local Fire and Building Departments. The system is designed under
prescriptive methods described.
7 - Special considerations for fire protection:
* No known official code interpretations. * No known official waivers or variances.
8 - Testing criteria:
* Tests will be conducted to the satisfaction of local authorities.
* Tests to be set up and scheduled by the contractor.
* All alarm tested for proper activation.
* Written approval of final tests to be obtained from the code official.
* Required fire alarm reports to be submitted to the code officials.
* All reports will be on NFPA Forms and shall include Record of Inspection and Record of Completion
9 – Sequence of operation:
All common areas on each level will be protected by automatic smoke detection as per the attached and here will be manual
pull stations installed at the entrance to each egress as required. The activation of any smoke detector, manual pull station or
sprinkler flow switch will create a general alarm condition throughout the building. Activation of a smoke detector in the
elevator lobbies, in addition to above, will activate Firefighter Emergency Service, as required, as set forth in the Code.
10- System Indication
Audio visual indicating devices will be installed in common areas as per this drawing. In addition, there will be one exterior
strobe adjacent to the front entrances. Each bedroom will have a low frequency sounder installed to maintain 75db at the
pillow as required.
Any general alarm will cause all sound all audio-visual devices to activate and deactivate any and all special effects that may
be installed that would inhibit any audible or visual evacuation signals
11- System Reporting
A general alarm condition will transmit a signal to an approved supervisory station for transmission to the Salem Fire
Department. Any mechanical failures or damage to the wiring integrity will generate an audible trouble signal at the protected
premises and notify the approved monitory entity for notification to the responsible party.
If required, duct detectors will be connected to the fire alarm control unit. These devices will generate a supervisory signal at
the FACU and transmit a signal to the approved central station for notification of the responsible party.
