THE PURPOSE OF THIS NARRATIVE IS TO DESCRIBE THE WET FIRE PROTECTION SPRINKLER
SYSTEM AT 75 WHARF ST. IN SALEM, MA.
THIS IS AN RECONSTRUCTION OF AN EXISTING BUILDING. MAJORITY OF THE 1ST FLOOR RETAIL IS
GOING TO REMAIN AND RESIDENTIAL UNITS WILL BE ADDEDA RESIDENTIAL UNIT TO THE 1ST FLOOR,
THE 2ND, 3RD AND 4TH FLOORS WILL BE RESIDENTIAL OCCUPANCY. THE ENTIRE BUILDING IS A WET
SYSTEM WITH TWO STANDPIPES AND FLOOR CONTROL VALVES FOR EACH FLOOR.
THE PROPOSED NEW SPRINKLER SYSTEM SHALL BE CONNECTED TO THE EXISTING 4" SERVICE AND
4" DCVA BACKFLOW WHICH IS TO REMAIN.
THE SCOPE OF WORK CONSIST OF AN AUTOMATIC WET SPRINKLER SYSTEM THAT IS FED FROM THE
EXISTING RISER ASSEMBLY LOCATED ON THE 1ST FLOOR IN THE SPRINKLER ROOM. THERE ARE
TWO STANDPIPES THATARE CONNECTED ON THIS FLOOR, ONE STANDPIPE HAS FLOOR CONTROL
VALVES FOR EACH FLOOR.
THE SYSTEM SHALL BE DESIGNED AND HYDRAULICALLY CALCULATED ON THE THIRD FLOOR FOR
RESIDENTIAL HAZARD OCCUPANCY AND SHALL PROVIDER A .10 DESIGN DENSITY FOR FOUR
REMOTE HEADS WITH AN OUTSIDE HOSE OF 100 GPM. THE 3RD FLOOR CORRIDOR SHALL BE
CALCULATED FOR LIGHT HAZARD AND SHALL PROVIDE A .10 DENSITY FOR FIVE HEADS WITH AN
OUTSIDE HOSE OF 100 GPM.
THE SYSTEM SHALL BE ACTIVATED WHEN A HEAT SOURCE WOULD FUSE A FIRE SPRINKLER HEAD,
CAUSING THE HEAD TO OPEN AND FLOW WATER, WHICH SIMULTANEOUSLY TRIGGERS THE ALARM
SYSTEM THAT WILL SIGNAL TO THE BOSTON FIRE DEPT. AND AN APPROVED CENTRAL LOCATION.
THE BUILDING SHALL BE FITTED WITH AN AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM SYSTEM (BY OTHERS) THAT
SHALL PROVIDE AN AUDIBLE ALARM UPON ACTIVATION OF A FIRE SPRINKLER HEAD AND/OR TEST
VALVE.
