1.FOUNDATIONS:
A) ALL FOOTINGS SHALL BEAR ON UNDISTURBED VIRGIN SOIL HAVING A MINIMUM SOIL BEARING CAPACITY OF
3,000 PSF (POUNDS PER SQUARE FOOT). BEARING CAPACITY IS PRESUMED. NOTIFY ENGINEER IF POOR SOIL, FILL
MATERIAL, CLAYS, SILTS, WATER TABLE, ETC. IS ENCOUNTERED.
B) THE BOTTOM ELEVATION OF EXTERIOR FOOTINGS SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 4'-0" BELOW OUTSIDE GRADE.

PROJECT SHALL BE KILN DRIED LUMBER AND SHALL BE STORED OFF THE GROUND AND COVERED WITH WATERPROOF
SHEETING TO PROTECT IT FROM WEATHER.
B) ALL WOOD IN CONTACT WITH MASONRY OR CONCRETE SHALL BE PRESERVATIVE TREATED LUMBER.
PRESERVATIVE TREATED LUMBER SHALL BE SOUTHERN YELLOW PINE NO. 2 OR BETTER.
C) FASTEN LUMBER SECURELY TOGETHER AND TO ALL SUPPORTS AS DETAILED ON THE DRAWINGS AND PER

H) ALL METAL PLATE FRAMING CONNECTORS (i.e. TIE STRAPS, JOIST HANGERS, HOLDOWNS, HURRICANE CLIPS,
POST CAPS, POST BASES, ETC.) IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH CROMATED COPPER ARSENATE (CCA-C), SODIUM BORATE
(SBX), ALKALINE COPPER QUAT (ACQ-C & ACQ-D), COPPER AZOLE (CBA-A & CA-B) OR SBX w/ NaSiO2 PRESERVATIVE
TREATED LUMBER SHALL HAVE HOT DIPPED GALVANIZED (G135 HDG PER ASTM A653) FINISH SUCH AS "ZMAX"
FINISH BY SIMPSON STRONG-TIE, OR APPROVED EQUAL. ALL FRAMING CONNECTORS IN CONTACT WITH ANY OTHER
TYPE OF PRESERVATIVE TREATMENT SHALL BE FABRICATED FROM TYPE 306 AND TYPE 316 STAINLESS STEEL. THE
FASTENERS USED TO SECURE THESE CONNECTORS SHALL BE OF THE SAME FINISH AS THE CONNECTORS. SOME
STAINLESS STEEL "SIMPSON" CONNECTORS MAY REQUIRE TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED. NOTIFY ENGINEER OF ANY
SUBSTITUTES IF STAINLESS STEEL CANNOT BE ORDERED.
I) ALL FASTENERS (i.e. CARRAIGE BOLTS, ANCHOR RODS, LAG BOLTS, NAILS, SCREWS, ETC.) IN DIRECT
CONTACT WITH CROMATED COPPER ARSENATE (CCA-C), SODIUM BORATE (SBX), ALKALINE COPPER QUAT (ACQ-C &
ACQ-D), COPPER AZOLE (CBA-A & CA-B) OR SBX w/ NaSiO2 PRESERVATIVE TREATMENTED WOOD SHALL HAVE HOT

5. BCI “I-JOIST” MEMBERS (IF SPECIFIED):
A)ALL BCI LUMBER SHALL BE MANUFACTURED BY BOISE CASCADE OR APPROVED EQUAL. SUBSTITUTIONS WILL
ONLY BE REVIEWED FOR USE IF ALL SUBSTITUTIONS ARE CLEARLY NOTED ON SHOP DRAWINGS AND ALL PERTINENT
LOAD CAPACITY INFORMATION IS SUBMITTED.
B)THE CONTRACTOR MUST HAVE A COPY OF THE "BUILDER'S GUIDE TO THE FRAMEWORKS BUILDING SYSTEM" ON
THE JOB AT ALL TIMES WHILE THE FRAMING IS BEING CONSTRUCTED.
C)THE GENERAL NOTES LISTED IN THE "BUILDER'S GUIDE TO THE FRAMEWORKS BUILDING SYSTEM" REFERENCED IN
ITEM 5B ABOVE IS HEREBY INCORPORATED IN THIS PROJECT ALONG WITH ALL ASSOCIATED DETAILS,
RECOMMENDATIONS AND NOTES.
D)PROVIDE SQUASH BLOCKS, WEB STIFFENERS ETC. AS REQUIRED BY BOISE CASCADE AND THE STRUCTURAL
DRAWINGS.
E)CORING OF HOLES THROUGH BCI's SHALL CONFORM WITH THE REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH BY THE
MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN BROCHURE.
F)BCI JOISTS NOT DESIGNED TO SUPPORT NATURAL STONE FLOORING. CONSULT WITH ENGINEER.
6. LAMINATED VENEER LUMBER (NOTED AS "LVL" OR “VL” ON DRAWINGS):
A) ALL LAMINATED VENEER LUMBER SHALL BE BY BOISE CASCADE OR APPROVED EQUAL.
B) ALL LAMINATED VENEER LUMBER SHALL HAVE THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM ALLOWABLE DESIGN PROPERTIES:
Fb = 3,100 PSI
Fv = 285 PSI
E = 2,000,000 PSI
C) FASTEN MULTIPLE MEMBER LAMINATED VENEER BEAMS ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS
UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED OR DETAILED ON THE STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS.
D) THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR AND/OR SUBCONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER OF RECORD
(S.E.R.) OF ANY AND ALL CUTS, CORED HOLES AND NOTCHES OTHER THAN THOSE INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS SO
THE S.E.R. CAN REVIEW THE MODIFICATIONS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
7. EPOXY ANCHORS OR REBAR:
A) ANCHORS OR REBAR WHICH ARE TO BE EPOXIED INTO CONCRETE OR MASONRY ARE TO BE DONE SO USING
"HILTI" FASTENERS. UNLESS SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE ON THE DRAWINGS, ANCHORS SHALL BE OF THE FOLLOWING
TYPE BASED ON THE MATERIAL IN WHICH THEY ARE TO BE EMBEDDED:
CONCRETE -"HIT-HY 200"; OR, "HIT-ICE" (FOR WINTER CONDITIONS)
BRICK, STONE OR CONCRETE BLOCK -"HIT-HY 270"
ALTERNATE MATERIALS MAY BE USED; HOWEVER, ANY SUBSTITUTION MUST BE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER PRIOR
TO ITS USE.
B) HOLES TO BE DRILLED FOR THE ANCHORS SHALL BE OF THE DIAMETER SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER
FOR THAT SPECIFIC ANCHOR, AND THE EMBEDMENT DEPTH SHALL BE AS NOTED ON THESE DRAWINGS. IF
EMBEDMENT IS NOT NOTED, THE MAXIMUM DEPTH SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR THAT ANCHOR DIAMETER
SHALL BE USED. NOTIFY ENGINEER OF MISSING EMBEDMENT INFORMATION PRIOR TO IMPLEMENTATION.
C) HOLES SHALL BE CLEANED THOROUGHLY BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE ANCHOR EMBEDMENT. AT A
MINIMUM, THE FOLLOWING HOLE PREPARATION AND CLEANING SHALL BE FOLLOWED AT ALL HOLES DRILLED FOR
EPOXY ANCHORS:
"STEP 1" - REMOVE ALL DUST AND DEBRIS FROM HOLE WITH COMPRESSED OR VACUUM WITH A NOZZLE INSERTED
TO THE BOTTOM OF HOLE;
"STEP 2" - WIRE BRUSH ALL PERIMETER SURFACES OF INSIDE OF HOLE WITH BRUSH EQUAL TO HOLE DIAMTER;
"STEP 3" - REPEAT HOLE CLEANING OUTLINED IN "STEP 1" ABOVE. THESE PREPARATION AND CLEANING
REQUIREMENTS ARE A MINIMUM, IF BOLT MANUFACTURER'S REQUIREMENTS ARE MORE STRINGENT THEY SHALL BE
FOLLOWED.
D) ANCHORS INTO MASONRY SHALL HAVE A SCREEN INSERT AS SPECIFIED BY THE ANCHOR MANUFACTURER.
E) ALL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED.
8. EXPANSION BOLTS:
A) EXPANSION BOLTS SHALL BE "HILTI- KWIK BOLT TZ" FASTENERS UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THE
DRAWINGS. SIZE OF ANCHORS SHALL BE AS SPECIFIED ON THE DRAWINGS.
B) HOLES TO BE DRILLED FOR THE ANCHORS SHALL BE OF THE DIAMETER SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER
FOR THAT SPECIFIC ANCHOR, AND THE EMBEDMENT DEPTH SHALL BE AS NOTED ON THESE DRAWINGS. IF
EMBEDMENT IS NOT NOTED, THE MAXIMUM DEPTH SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR THAT ANCHOR SHALL BE
USED. NOTIFY ENGINEER OF MISSING EMBEDMENT INFORMATION PRIOR TO IMPLEMENTATION.
C) HOLES SHALL BE CLEANED THOROUGHLY BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE ANCHOR EMBEDMENT.
D) ALL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED.
E) DO NOT CUT OR DAMAGE EXISTING EMBEDDED CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT DURING INSTALLATION WITHOUT
PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE ENGINEER.
9. TEMPORARY SHORING AND BRACING:
A) THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL TEMPORARY SHORING AND BRACING NECESSARY TO
PROTECT THE STRUCTURE FROM DAMAGE DURING THE WORK. ALL SHORING AND BRACING SHALL BE DESIGNED AND
INSTALLED BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL EXPERIENCED WITH THIS SPECIFIC TYPE OF WORK.
B) ALL SHORING SHALL BE FOUNDED ON STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING THE LOAD.
RESHORE TO LOWER LEVELS AS REQUIRED.
C) PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY TEMPORARY BRACING TO HOLD STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS IN POSITION UNTIL
PERMANENT BRACES AND/ OR SHEATHING ARE INSTALLED.
10. MISCELLANEOUS:
A) THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL DETAILS AND DIMENSIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE
WORK. NOTIFY ENGINEER OF ANY DISCREPANCIES.
B) ALL WORK SHALL COMPLY WITH THE CURRENT EDITION OF THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE BUILDING CODE, AND
ANY APPLICABLE LOCAL CODES.
C) THE STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS SHALL NOT BE SCALED TO OBTAIN DIMENSIONS, OFFSETS, SPACINGS, ETC. FOR
ANY STRUCTURAL FRAMING MEMBERS, FOUNDATION WALLS, ETC. WRITTEN DIMENSIONS ON THE STRUCTURAL AND
ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS SHALL BE USED. IF A CONFLICT OR DISCREPANCY IS FOUND BETWEEN WRITTEN
DIMENSIONS ON ARCHITECTURAL AND STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A WRITTEN
"REQUEST FOR INFORMATION" TO THE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH THE WORK.
D) ALL MATERIAL, PRODUCT AND COMPONENT SUBSTITUTIONS SHALL BE PRE-APPROVED BY DAIGLE ENGINEERS,
INC. AND MUST HAVE EQUAL PROPERTIES AND LOAD CARRYING CAPACITIES AS DOCUMENTED IN THE
MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS.
