282 Derby Street Unit 2 Rear(Paprika Grill): Discussion and vote on proposed
signage (sign permit) scheme.
Recommendation
At its meeting on March 28, 2018 the DRB voted to recommend approval of the
proposed blade sign at 282 Derby Street Unit 2 Rear(Paprika Grill), with the following
conditions:
• Any subsequent changes to the approved signs will require review by the Design
Review Board and approval by the Salem Redevelopment Authority.
• Any additional signs not included in this approval—including window signage—
will need to be permitted in the sign application process, which includes Design
Review Board recommendation.
Original Proposal
The applicant is proposing to install at 42" x 42" PVC blade sign on an existing bracket
for a retail space located on the Liberty Street side of 282 Derby Street, next door to
Salem Witch Village. The sign is black with red and white text. The applicant has
provided fonts and dimension for the sign.
Enclosed are a sign permit application and sign designs that includes specifications and
renderings.
Staff Comments:
The applicant should confirm that the bottom of the blade sign is at least 8 ft above
grade, as required in the Urban Renewal District. Otherwise, the blade sign complies
with the sign ordinance. The applicant is reusing an existing wrought iron sign bracket
and lighting.
