Drawings shall be referred to for size and location of openings for Vents, Pipes, Ducts, etc. 2 All concrete shall have a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 3000 psi, unless otherwise noted. 3. Reinforcing steel shall comply with ASTM designation A615 Grade 40 and to the provisions of ACI 318-71 "Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete" except as noted. Reinforcing Steel Fabrication shall be in accordance with \CI 315-65 "Manual of Standard Practice for Detailing Reinforced Concrete". 4. Reinforcing splices shall be as follows except where noted. Beams and Elevated Slabs: a. b. c. #3 thru #6 40 DIAMETERS #7 thru rl1 55 DIAMETERS Welded Wire Fabric 6 1/4" All others: a. b. #3 thru #6 25 DIAMETERS a2" min. #7 thru #11 35 DIAMETERS 5. Reinforcement cover shall comply with the table "Concrete Protection For Reinforcement" unless otherwise noted. 6. Temperature steel cross sectional area shall be minimum of 0.0020 times the gross concrete area unless detailed or noted. 7. Unless otherwise detailed, provide additional rein- forcement around all concrete openings with a dimension greater than 12 inches as follows: Using a minimum size of #5, reinforcement shall be equal in cross - sectional area to the amount interrupted with one --half of the bars placed on opposite sides of the opening. Bars shall extend 30 diameters beyond the edge of, opening. 8. Provide all necessary chairs, chair bars, spacers, etc., wired securely to hold reinforcement in position. These accessories shall be plastic booted. 9. Construction joints, in walls and slabs, shall be keyed. Use of construction joints other than those shown on the drawings will require approval of the Engineer. 10. Backfill shall not be placed against foundation walls until supporting slabs have been poured and the forms removed. Granular backfill shall he placed and compac- ted on all sides of the structure simultaneously. 11. Waterstops shall be used at all construction joints which will be exposed to earth below EL.15.00. 12. All exterior vertical surfaces below EL.15.00 shall be membrane waterproofed. All other below grade exterior surfaces shall be dampproofed. 13. During construction, masonry walls must be braced where required such that all lateral forces are taken by the bracing while the free top of wall is not laterally braced by floor or roof diaphram.
