IN-KIND WNDOW REPLACEMENT Salem Redevelopment Authority October 11, 2019 David Pabich Salem Renewal, LLC 65 Congress Street Salem, MA 01970 Dear Mr. Pabich: I have reviewed your proposal to replace eleven(11) windows on the structure at 1-7 Central Street. The existing windows bronze-colored, one-over-one replacement windows shall be replaced in kind in terms of style, color, and design. Those windows that are within five-feet (5') of the property line must be replaced in-kind, meaning that they will continue to be aluminum-framed windows. Those that are not within five-feet (5') of the property line will be replaced with vinyl windows, in the same color, style, and design. Based on the information you provided, including photographs of the existing windows and description of the project in the email correspondence dated October 8, 2019 with Kate Newhall- Smith (all documents are attached), I have determined that this proposal represents an in-kind window and thus does not require formal review at a public meeting by the Salem Redevelopment Authority and the Design Review Board (SRA and DRB, respectively). Should the proposal change, and the project is no longer a true in-kind replacement of what exists, or the project scope increases to include other exterior fagade changes, please contact Ms. Newhall-Smith at 978-619-5685 to determine if SRA and DRB approval is necessary. Thank you for your cooperation and efficiency in providing the project details. Sincerely, d T m Daniel, AICP Executive Director cc: Steve Cummings,Assistant Building Inspector Attch. All of the windows in the building are bronze colored one-over-one replacement windows of various ages. The older windows were installed in the 1980s and are literally falling apart. We are replacing 11 windows in total. There are 2 in the side alley and 4 in the rear(on the second floor)that are within 5' of the property line. These we are planning to replace with bronze colored aluminum frames and sashes, with wired glass, made by Diamond Windows. To comply with building code for an existing window so close to the property line, the new windows need to be the same as the old ones, which we are doing.
