OBSERVATIONS:
This report follows a site visit to observe/test the earthwork for: Footing trench excavation.
Pavement sub grade prep continued within proposed parking and roadway areas located at the North
side of building 1. The existing common fill was cut down to the required depth (24" below F.G. in
heavy duty traffic areas and 18" in standard duty traffic areas). Cuts were performed utilizing the
Deere 380 and 75 excavators and Deere bulldozer. In some areas, the required gravel base thickness was
exceeded due to the removal of frozen or wet/softened material. The exposed sub grade bearing stratum
is previously placed onsite generated common fill (urban fill) generally consisting of F - C sand, some
gravel little silt with minor amounts of various debris such as wood, ash, glass, coal, cinders Etc.
The exposed sub grade is stable and compact. The material used as pavement base is 1.5" reprocessed
material from the Caruso Pit in Revere, MA. A layer of bi axial geogrid was placed between the sub
grade and pavement base course material. In areas where the gravel base thickness exceeded 18", two
lifts were placed and compacted. The surface of the gravel base was compacted utilizing the IR 10 ton
drum roller exhibiting stable/firm conditions. Placement of gravel base in this area is nearing
completion and efforts are shifting to grading and compaction.
