OBSERVATIONS:
Pavement subgrade prep continued within proposed parking and roadway areas located at the North side of
building 1. The fill was expanded to the South to insure adequate compaction along the edge of
pavement. The material used as pavement base is 1.5" reprocessed material from the Carusso pit in
Revere, MA. Efforts this date focused on fine grading and compaction efforts. Grading was performed
using the bulldozer and grader. The surface of the gravel base was compacted utilizing the IR 10 ton
drum roller exhibiting stable/firm conditions. The pavement base course material used at the Mason
street entrance is 3/4" dense graded gravel consisting of F gravel and sand, trace silt. The dense
grade gravel was used over the in place reprocessed material base to shim to required elevation.
Grading efforts were delayed due to the presence of overnight frost accumulation. Eight compaction
tests were performed on the pavement base by Troxler method. All tests exceeded 95% compaction of the
modified proctor.
