Sub: Dryer exhaust
Dear Paul,
This letter is in regards to the dryer exhaust system at the above referenced project.
The existing building is a 3 story building with basement. The dryers are located in basement, second
floor and third floor. They share a common riser duct that is 8x6 through all floor. This duct offsets in the
attic to a spinner on the room. Based on the discussions in the field, the contractor has noted how
much lint collect and has to be cleaned out regularly in the main riser. There are many issues with the
dryer riser that could lead to a possible fire. There is no clean out at the base of the riser to allow proper
duct cleaning. The size is two large at the lower floor, this would slow the velocity of the air down which
would cause lint build up in the duct work. The duct is not in a 2hr rated shaft enclosure which is code
required, Lastly the spinner on the roof is not a method that can be trusted to keep constant suction on
the duct riser to stop smoke migration and lint build up.
The contractor has been removed all the existing dryer exhaust that was visible in the attic and inside
apartments. All existing ducts that are remaining have been capped and sealed to ensure no further
connections to be provided. New vent less have been installed.
Please do not hesitate to contact our office with any comments or questions.
Sincerely,
