OBSERVATIONS:
Drainage utility installation was performed at the north side of building 1. Double catch basin 14 was
installed and connected to previously installed DMH 14. Sub grade improvements were performed for the
catch basin structure for improved support given the unfavorable organic sub grade conditions. The
excavation was carried down approximately 18" below bottom of structure elevation utilizing the Deere
380 excavator. The sub grade soils in this area is tannin bark. A layer of geogrid was placed over the
sub grade followed by a 12" thick layer of 3/4" crushed stone. The stone was tamped into place
utilizing the excavator bucket. Final excavation and base preparation was completed as quickly as
possible due to the presence of groundwater. The structure was installed and backfilled using the urban
fill generated during excavation. The 12"-18" thick lifts were placed and graded. Each lift was
compacted utilizing the Wacker plate compactor exhibiting stable/firm conditions. The structures were
connected using 12" diameter HDPE piping. The piping was installed and bedded in 3/4" crushed stone.
The shallow trench was backfilled to existing grade utilizing 1.5" reprocessed material from the
Carusso pit in Revere, MA.
