Plate Compactors, CAT 980 & 950 Loaders & IR Pro Pac 110 Series 10 ton Drum Roller TEST METHOD:Sand Cone Nuclear Densometer TITLE:Inspector Staff Engineer EngineerX OBSERVATIONS: This report follows a site visit to observe/test the earthwork for: Footing trench excavation. Footing excavation was performed for the tie beam along column line 7 within the limits of building 1. The trench was excavated to design elevation utilizing the Deere 450 excavator equipped with a flat cutting edge (flared teeth) to minimize sub grade disturbance. Ground improvements were previously completed in this area by installing GCC deep foundation elements. The elements were previously excavated to design cutoff elevation. The area was over excavated a minimum 6" below design BOF elevation to provide a cushion/base of material between the elements and the footing. All GCC elements were carefully located and exposed during excavation. The sub grade soil in this area is existing loamy urban fill generally consisting of F - M sand, little gravel, little silt containing wood, organic silt, ash, slag etc. A 6 - 12" thick layer of ¾" crushed stone was placed and graded. Due to the presence of groundwater, de watering was performed as necessary. Mirafi filter fabric was placed between the sub grade and crushed stone footing base material. The surface of the stone was compacted utilizing the heavy plate compactor exhibiting stable/firm conditions. Exterior foundation backfilling continued @ the north side of building 1. The material used is onsite generated common fill from perimeter footing trench excavation generally consisting of F - M sand, some gravel, little silt. An approximately 3' thick wide chimney of clean structural fill was maintained vertically behind the foundation retaining wall during backfilling. The 4" diameter CVC foundation drain was installed after achieving the required invert elevation. The piping was bedded in crushed stone and the stone bedding was wrapped in filter fabric. Work in this area is ongoing. Plumbing utility trench excavation continued for floor drains within the Northern limit of the garage area of building 2. The trench was carried down to design elevation utilizing the Deere mini excavator. A layer of clean bedding sand was placed at the bottom of the trench.
