Washington Street, 163-189, The Derby Sign Recommendation Salem Redevelopment Authority Design Review Board Sign Recommendation 163-189 Washington Street The Derby Facade Sign Meeting Date: February 27, 2019 Members Present: Paul Durand, Chair, David Jaquith, Glenn Kennedy, Catherine Miller, Helen Sides Members Absent: Christopher Dynia, J. Michael Sullivan Decision: At a regular meeting of the Design Review Board (DRB), upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to recommend approval of the fapade sign as designed and conditioned herein. Referenced Plans and Documents 1. Application for Permit to Erect a Sign, dated 2/11/19. 2. The Derby, Conceptual Design Package, prepared by Sousa Design, 81 Boylston Street, 2nd Floor, Brookline, MA 02445, dated 1/18/19, containing the following sheets that include sign details: a. 'Enlarged Proposed Entry Elevation' b. 'Proposed Exterior Elevation' c. Exterior Elevations and Signage Details', Sheet A-300 3. Staff Comments dated 2/21/19. Condition of Approval 1. Consistency with Design/Plans: Should the applicant determine that the approved sign design may not be completed as detailed in the plans referenced herein, he/she/they shall return to the DRB to review proposed modifications prior to making any changes in the field. Findings 1. The DRB reviewed the sign proposal and found that the proposed fapade sign is consistent with the standards and guidelines in the SRA Sign Manual regarding size, scale, and color choice that provides contrast to allow for readability. 2. The size of the sign is modest, and its text is scaled for pedestrians and does not detract from or obscure the existing architectural features of the building.
