DRB RECOMMENDATION Salem Redevelopment Authority Design Review Board Sign Recommendation 120 Washington Street Workbar Projecting Sign Meeting Date: February 27, 2019 Members Present: Paul Durand, Chair, David Jaquith, Glenn Kennedy, Catherine Miller, Helen Sides Members Absent: Christopher Dynia, J. Michael Sullivan Decision: At a regular meeting of the Design Review Board (DRB), upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to recommend approval of the projecting sign as designed and conditioned herein. Referenced Plans and Documents I. Workbar Proposal, prepared by SRP Sign Corporation, 236 Pearl Street, Somerville, MA 02146, dated 1/9/19 and revised to 2/13/19. 2. Staff Comments dated 2121/19. Conditions of Approval 1. Consistency-with Desi n/Plans: Should the applicant determine that the approved sign design may not be completed as detailed in the plans referenced herein, he/she/they shall return to the DRB to review proposed modifications prior to making any changes in the field. 2. Si n Ins#alla#ion: The applicant shall install the wedge anchors in the mortar between the bricks to protect the brick fagade from damage. Findings 1. The DRB reviewed the sign proposal and found that the proposed projecting sign is consistent with the standards and guidelines in the SRA Sign Manual regarding size, scale, and color choice that provides contrast to allow for readability. 2. The size of the sign is modest, and its text is scaled for pedestrians and does not detract from or obscure the existing architectural features of the building. 3. The DRB found that the internal illumination for this sign is appropriate since the letters are backlit with the sign panel itself remaining opaque. This halo lighting effect will not create glare for vehicles or pedestrians and it will not be so illuminated that it will shine into the upper level residences in this building or adjacent ones. Signature of the SRA By the signature below, I certify that this recommendation accurately reflects the actions of the Design Review Board. Paul Durand Chair
