OBSERVATIONS:
This report follows a site visit to observe/test the earthwork for: Footing trench excavation.
Pavement sub grading continued @ the west side of building 2. Minor cuts were made to the south
half of the lot and pushed to landscape areas @ the north. The material is onsite urban fill generally
consisting of F - C sand and gravel, little silt with slag, ash, wood brick, metal etc. A pocket of
unstable soil was identified during trafficking with the site dump truck. The wet/unstable material was
removed to an approximate depth of 5 - 6' below design finished grade elevation. The sub grade is still
wet urban fill containing wood, organics, leather, clay, ash, slag, etc. A 6 - 12" thick layer of
crushed stone was placed at the bottom of the excavation due to the wet sub grade conditions. A layer
of geogrid was placed over the stone followed by dry onsite generated common fill. The onsite material
was placed in 18" thick lifts and compacted utilizing the IR drum roller exhibiting stable/firm
conditions. Work in this area was ongoing upon the time of departure.
Installation of electrical utilities was performed @ the west and south sides of building 2.
Conduit for site lighting and temporary electric to the building was installed. The shallow trench was
excavated utilizing the Deere 75 mini excavator. The pvc conduit was installed and bedded in clean
imported sand. Utility indicating tape was used as necessary. Due to the shallow depth of the utility,
typically only a single 8 - 18" thick lift of backfill material was required at this point.
Foundation backfilling was performed for recently cast footings within the Northern limits of
building 1. The material used for interior foundation backfill is onsite crushed structural consisting
of F - C gravel, some sand, trace silt. The exterior foundation backfill material used is also coarse
gravel with varying amounts of onsite generated common fill blended throughout. A single 16" thick lift
