OBSERVATIONS:
This report follows a site visit to observe/test the earthwork for: Footing trench excavation.
Efforts this date focused on pavement sub grade preparation @ the west side of building 2. The in
place material is onsite urban fill generally consisting of F - C sand and gravel, little silt with
slag, ash, wood brick, metal etc. A pocket of unstable soil was identified during trafficking with the
site dump truck. The wet/unstable material was removed to an approximate depth of 5 - 6' below design
finished grade elevation. The sub grade is still wet urban fill containing wood, organics, leather,
clay, ash, slag, etc. A 6 - 12" thick layer of crushed stone was placed at the bottom of the excavation
due to the wet sub grade conditions. A layer of geogrid was placed over the stone followed by dry
onsite generated common fill. The onsite material was placed in 18" thick lifts and compacted utilizing
the IR drum roller exhibiting stable/firm conditions. The entire parking area was proof compacted
employing several passes of coverage utilizing the IR 10 ton drum roller exhibiting stable firm
conditions. A layer of geogrid was placed over the sub grade. A thin layer of processed gravel was
placed over the grid to hold it in place until the pavement base is placed.
Pavement sub grade prep was performed @ the WSW side of building 2 near the construction trailer.
A full depth pavement sub grade cut was performed at this location. The area was cut to an approximate
depth of 15" below FG. Excavation remained incomplete in this area on this date.
