Exterior foundation backfilling was performed @ the ENE side of proposed building 2. The foundation drain was previously installed. The backfill material used is either onsite generated common fill or onsite processed structural fill. The majority of material used is onsite generated common fill consisting of F-C gravel and sand, little silt. The structural fill was used at the entrance and trash room approach. It was discussed with the general and site contractor that structural fill is specified for unbalanced foundation wall backfill and onsite material does not meet the gradation requirements. Furthermore, the onsite material has an approximate organic content of 11% and should be amended when used within 4" of finished grade within pavement/sidewalk areas. Approximately 18" thick lifts were placed and graded. Each lift was compacted utilizing the wacker plate compactor exhibiting stable/firm conditions. Installation of a hydrant was performed @ the SSW side of building 2. The 6" diameter CLDI piping was installed and connected to the previously installed tee with all the appropriate parts and fittings. The hydrant was installed and the piping was bedded in clean imported sand. A boulder was used as a thrust block. The trench was backfilled using the same material generated during excavation generally consisting of F - C gravel and sand trace silt. 12 - 18" thick lifts were placed and graded. Each lift was compacted utilizing the heavy Wacker plate compactor exhibiting stable/firm conditions. Installation of light pole bases continued on the project. The precast bases were set and backfilled on this date.
