Urban Renewal Area Projects Under Review 1. 118 Washington Street (Naumkeag Ordinary): Discussion of proposed signage and façade improvements. The submission under review before the DRB includes a signage proposal, cut sheets, and photos. Matt Brady was present on behalf of Naumkeag Ordinary. Brady commented that raised letters would be attached to a signage board. Existing black light fixtures and rail will remain but would be separated 48” apart for one another. Kennedy commented that the signage appears clean and straightforward. Kennedy questioned how far the pilasters would protrude. Brady noted that all the pilasters would protrude out 8”; everything will be further out than the existing window. White painted letters and rule will match the existing. Kennedy questioned whether there was a sample color for the aluminum letter present. Kennedy noted a silver paint color on the background and questioned if the letters would be legible to the public. Kennedy noted that metal letters should be cut ½” deep to provide enough of a shadow. Brady noted that the current proposed font is Colonial and that the letters will be 8” tall. Kennedy questioned how tall the metal letters would be. Kennedy noted that the letters would stand out better if they were painted black. Kennedy questioned what the brushed door handle color is and if it will remain this color. Brady commented that the existing door handle is dark brown but will be painted a lighter shade of this color. Durand: Motion to approve. Seconded by: Jaquith, Passes 6-0.
