OBSERVATIONS:
This report follows a site visit to observe/test the earthwork for: Footing trench excavation.
Installation of sewer utilities was performed within the central project limits between proposed
buildings 1 & 2. SMH 2 and MDC gas traps 1 & 2 were installed on this date. The sub grade was
previously prepared for SMH 2 and MDC gas trap 2 using crushed stone and processed gravel structural
fills. The structures were set atop the in-place material and partially backfilled. MDC gas trap #1 was
relocated closer to proposed building #1. The excavation for this structure was carried down to
approximately 2 - 3' below the bottom of the structure through the organic fill and into the marine
clay. The over excavation was backfilled to bottom of structure elevation utilizing ¾" crushed stone.
The stone was tamped into place utilizing the excavator bucket. Piping for the MDC gas traps is to be
completed by the plumber. The utilities were backfilled using imported structural fill generally
consisting of F - C gravel and sand, trace silt placing. Approximately 18" thick lifts were placed and
graded utilizing the Deere 380 excavator. ¾" crushed stone was used for backfilling where safety
concerns are an issue or the areas were inaccessible with compaction equipment. Each lift was compacted
employing several passes of coverage utilizing the heavy Wacker plate compactor exhibiting stable/firm
conditions.
