Summary of Review: At a regular meeting of the Salem Redevelopment Authority(SRA),
members reviewed the proposed location for the electrical box in Derby-Square. The location,
in an existing tree pit that currently has a Derby Square street sign, is the preferred alternative
since it will be closer to Front Street, located adjacent to an existing electrical service manhole,
and will not impair the view to Old Town Hall.
The SRA found that this location, as described and depicted in an email from Dominick Pangallo
dated February 25, 2019, is the most viable of all others considered. Additionally, the SRA is
supportive of painting the electrical box; its design to be vetted by the City's Public Art Planner
and the Salem Public Art Commission.
The email ensures that the City, through its Department of Public Works, will repair the brick
and granite stairs where the electrical box was originally installed.
