Dear Mike,
Due to unforeseen conditions in the existing wall the 32x32 louver would not fit in the
location currently indicated on the drawings. The architect has proposed changing the size
of the opening to 18x60 and switching from a louver to a motorized damper with insect
screen that would need to be wired to fail open in the event of a power failure. But still, due
to those unforeseen conditions in the existing wall there is a need to add a hood to
motorized damper to maintain the clear distance from the damper to the door opening. In
our opinion this will allow the design to meet the intent of the Massachusetts State Building
Code.

RE: Parking Garage, 118 Washington Street Basement,
Recently this office received an application for a"Sheet Metal'permit for work to be completed
in the proposed parking garage area of 118 Washington Street. This Department and the
Plumbing Department continue to have outstanding questions regarding this project. The
construction document submitted on May 5, 2014 by your office still appear to lack the
information requested at the meeting in which these drawings were requested.
The termination points of the exhaust vents are of major concern with the filing of this "Sheet
Metal' application. The aforementioned drawings submitted, dated 09/18/2008 show no
additional information nor has any HVAC "Addendum" drawings been filed with this office to
clarify the issue.
Furthermore it appears that the corridor rating at the basement discharge level at the rear parking
lot has not been addressed above the ceiling. Nor have any inspections been requested of this
office or the Plumbing Inspector since our initial meeting to discuss these concerns. To date this
Department has received no updated "Construction Control'reports from your office or other
licensed professional..
It is requested you contact this office immediacy upon receipt of this letter, and any work
including the HVAC/Sheet Metal work stop until clarification on these items can be discussed.
