The City of Salem Zoning Ordinance definition of one
family and dwelling units are as follows ;
Family; One ( 1 ) or more persons occupying a dwelling
unit and living together as a single non-profit
housekeeping unit; provided that a group of three (3 ) or
more persons who are not within some degree of kinship
shall not be deemed to constitute a family.
Dwelling unit ; A building or portion thereof
providing complete housekeeping and cooking facilities for
one ( 1 ) family.
Please notify this department within fifteen ( 15 )
days upon receipt of this letter, to inform us as to what
course of action you will take to rectify this matter .
Failure to do so will result in legal action being taken
against you .

This permit is granted on the express conditioh.that the said construction shall, in all respects, conform
to the Ordinances of this jurisdiction including the Zoning Ordinance,regulating the construction and use of
buildings, and may be revoked at any time upon violation of any provisions of said ordinances.

:ulditions and iterations to existing, buildings require a minimum of three call inspections, namely, (1) Footings,
drain the systems, foundation and basement walls, when walls are at least two feet high,.but before back filling
the wall and before proceeding with the superstructures. (2) Framing prior to lathing and plastering, duct work,
fire stopping and other equipment before it is cunceale.d. (3) Final inspection when building or structure is com.
pleted.
On jobs involving reinforced concrete work, inspection must be made after steel is in place and before concrete
.is poured.
The Department reserves the right to reject ariy work which has been concealed or completed without first
having been inspected and approved by the Department in accordance with the requirements of the various codes.
Any deviation from the approved plans must be authorized by the approval of revised plans subject to the same
procedure established for die examination of the original plans. .An additional permit fee is also charged predicated
on the extent of the variation from the original plans
Permits are not vailid if construction work is not started within six months from date permit is issued.
Request for Final Inspection should be made by postcard or phone call to this department when the
construction work is completed and heating apparatus has been installed. Painting or decoratingis not required
before the Final Building Inspection.
Final Inspection and certificate of occupancy must be obtained before cocupying building.
