RE: Chimney Installation at 71 Tremont Street
Dear Mr. Bott:
Responding to a telephone complaint of a smoky chimney at your address, I looked at the
installation that I inspected previously and approved as part of a Building Permit Process.
It appears that your chimney might be too low and need to be extended'higher.
The code requirement is that the chimney should be 2' higher than a spot 10' away from
where the chimney penetrates the roof or 2' higher than the ridge.
Please check and let me know the result.

This Department received and investigated a complaint regarding accessory structures at your
property. Salem zoning requires a five foot setback from the property line and ten foot setback
from your home for any accessory structure. The structures in question are the sheds located
along the right side of your home as viewed from the street. You are directed to relocate these
stuctures to another conforming location within 15 days of receipt of this notice. If you feel you
are aggrieved by my interpretation, your Appeal is to the Zoning Board of Appeals. If you have
