To Whom It May Concern;
In the fall of 2005, I responded with my counterparts from Fire Prevention,
Health, Electrical, and Plumbing to the above address to respond to a tenant complaint.
There were a number of violations found at this time, some of which were egregious
enough to warrant the removal of the tenants from this structure until such time that these
concerns had been addressed. Fire Marshall Lt. Griffin was able to get in contact with
the property owner, and he responded immediately and was on scene within an hour. He
worked to secure accommodations for his tenants, even opening up his own home for
them while the repairs were accomplished. The complaints had been brought by the first
floor tenants, none of the other tenants had similar complaints. After about 10 days we
again inspected this property and found that all listed violations had been rectified.
There is a substantial difference between the short term removal of tenants, so as
to correct unsafe conditions and the condemnation of a property. I understand that it has
been argued in court that this property had been condemned. Such was not the case, we
had found deficiencies in regards to the heating system, common area lighting, and egress
areas, these matters of life safety, and the fact that the heating system was out of service,
after the 15th of November, required us to remove the tenancies until such time as these
deficiencies were cleared up.
At this time there are no current issues with this property, and this landlord has
worked hard to keep this property in good order. If you have any questions regarding this
