Let me tell you a bit of background about the Y signage. We are trying to be helpful to the Y by allowing them to mark the doorway. Brainstorming a bit, we found out that the Taste of Thyme is being very understanding of that and would be happy with a sign on "their"sign band -but while we appreciated their help, that won't mark the doorway to 120 Washington Street well. So the next idea we decided to take a look at is the OTHER side of the doorway, which is the very end of the space you occupy. I think that's what Deb talked to you about. What I'd like to do is ask Tania Hartford of my office to go down and meet with you and show you the spot we're thinking about and get your thoughts. (A quick look at it left us feeling we might have something that would work for the Y's need to mark the entrance without confusing your tenants at the same time-since your awning signage on Lappin Park is so extensive-but the devil is always in the details, right!) Let me ask Tania to meet with you ASAP and make sure we are all talking about the same place first of all-and then see what the issues are.Then maybe you and I can meet and figure out what's what?We don't want to approve anything that solves one problem while making it worse for you. FYI, as an administrative matter, the SRA does have jurisdiction over all signage downtown, including our(City)signs as well as any future signs you may want to put up, regardless of property lines, etc. So if I can ask a favor: if you have future plans for other signage-even at just a preliminary level -will you let us know so we can keep that in mind as the SRA approves other people's signage?Thanks. We have some concerns about this because this is the end of our school, and we have plans to eventually put up our own sign. Our space is designed so that it can be separated from the whole building should we decide to buy the space. It has always been our understanding that we controlled the outside of our space for signage purposes. We are in the process of redecorating our end windows to reflect another view of the school. A YMCA sign even if it says second floor would still be very confusing--many people would think our space was the YMCA. I took a quick look at the building facade this morning and feel that there might be an option for their sign to be at the Transylvania Pizza end. Their(TP)sign is at the top of their windows, and it clearly is a pizza place, not a daycare center. Depending on how big the sign was going to be, there is also a space right above the front door at the main entrance-- that would directly lead people into the building and up to the second floor --it may not be the best place aesthetically.
