Please consider the following when you discuss the freestanding sign and our request to allow it to be internally illuminated: • The burgundy background transmits much less light than any other vinyl color, and will not appear to be a glowing box. In fact external lighting would probably be much brighter. The internal lighting would be more subdued than external lighting. • This lot is unique in the entrance corridor overlay district in that the neighboring retail use lots are not affected by the regulations of the zone. The Chinese restaurant is in the zone, but its preexisting status allows its large, internally illuminated freestanding sign to remain. The old Dunkin Donuts, Danversbank and the Staples shopping center are all outside the zone. We are not asking to be exempt from the regulations. We will comply with the size and height requirements. However, we feel strongly that the subdued burgundy backlighting will tie together the whole marketing concept, and is necessary to help this new restaurant be successful. • This restaurant is not a franchise, but rather an independent operation. The owner,Joseph Leone, is making a substantial investment in the property that will be a vast improvement over the previous KFC restaurant.The entire building and property is being rehabbed inside and out. Joe is making a dramatic improvement to the entrance corridor zone. He would not want anything that detracts from the investment he is making, and believes that the sign as proposed is important and necessary to the success of this new operation. Please consider the unique characteristics of this property, along with the hard work and substantial investment of Joe Leone, and allow the sign as proposed.
