Design Review Board Recommendation
May 27, 2009
300 Derby Street (Murphy's Irish Pub): Discussion and vote on proposed
exterior signage
DRB Recommendation
At their meeting on May 27, 2009, the DRB voted to recommend approval of the
proposed signage at 300 Derby Street with the following conditions:
- The wall sign shall be located about halfway between the top of the door
and the location of the current sign;
- The kiosk design shall be the second version in which the sign does not
extend beyond the kiosk base;
- Both signs shall be adjusted to create more space between the top and
bottom lines of text;
- The power for the wall sign shall come through the wall and the power
cord and source will be concealed; and
- A DRB member shall review and recommend approval of the revised wall
sign location and design prior to the SRA meeting.
Staff Comment
The revised proposal appears to address the conditions above; however, the
proposal has not been reviewed by the DRB member yet. It is anticipated this
review will occur prior to the SRA meeting.
Original Proposal
The proposal includes a wall mounted sign and a new sign to cap an existing
kiosk. The wall sign would have white letters mounted on a black background.
The sign would use LED lights (proposed to be white light) to create a halo
lighting. The kiosk sign would consist of an opaque black box with letters cut out.
A white panel would be used to create the lettering which would pop
approximately 1/8" beyond the plane of the box. The display portion of the kiosk
would be refurbished with a white plexiglas case that would be lit. The wall sign is
16' x 4', the kiosk sign is 44" x 16", and the kiosk display is 30" x 36". The sign
are complies with City and SRA guidelines.
