Discussion and vote on proposed installation of signage.
SRA Decision
At its meeting on June 8, 2016 the SRA voted unanimously (5-0) to approve
the proposed installation of signage at 24 New Derby Street (Artists' Row) -
Unit#5 (Kay's Stained Glass Studio) as recommended by the DRB — one
change being that there will be no patterned border around the sign.
Recommendation
At its regular meeting on May 25, 2016 the DRB voted unanimously to recommend
approval of the proposed installation of signage at 24 New Derby Street, Unit #5,
conditional upon the applicant having final changes reviewed by DRB member Glenn
Kennedy and that all hooks used to hang the sign be black.
Staff Comments for June 11, 2016 SRA Meeting
The applicant was asked to remove a shadow that appeared behind the font in the
original design submitted to the DRB. The applicant has done so.
Glenn Kennedy has not yet provided final comment/approval on the design. I will
confirm that he approves of this design prior to the SRA meeting, or provide any
comments that should be taken into consideration prior to an approval by the SRA.
Proposal
The applicant proposes to erect a 24" x 24" free standing (blade sign style) sign at
Artists' Row building #5. The sign will be hung at the existing pole/bracket and is
proposed to be hand-painted PVC board hung with 1 '/4" hooks.
Staff Comments
The proposal complies with the City's sign ordinance and Commercial Design
Guidelines.
That said, I am requesting additional information from the applicant: a contextual photo
or photos of the building and details on method of attachment.
