RE: Illegal Sign at 405 Essex Street
To Whom It May Concern,
It has come to my attention that a sign was recently painted across the fagade of your
establishment at 405 Essex Street(formerly Cooper's Garage). The Salem Sign Ordinance
requires all signs to be reviewed and approved prior to their installation. In addition,your
property is located within the McIntire Historic District and requires further review and
approval from the Salem Historic Commission. The painted sign lccated on the fagade of
your establishment does not meet the Salem Sign Ordinance or the Historical Commission
requirements, and is therefore an illegal sign.
You are directed to remove the sign from your building and file a Salem Sign Permit
Application and a Historic Commission Application with this department within 14 days
upon receipt of this letter,or we will forward this matter to the Building Inspector who will
enforce the penalties and fines under Sec 3.36, Sec 3.29 of the Salem Sign Ordinance and
780 CMR Sec 3102.4 of the Building State Code.
