281 Essex Street (Life Alive): Discussion and vote on proposed a-frame sign.
SRA Decision
At its meeting on June 8, 2016 the SRA voted unanimously (5-0) to approve
the proposal to place an a-frame sign at 281 Essex Street (Life Alive) as
recommended by the DRB.
Recommendation
The DRB voted 6-1 to recommend approval of the proposed a-frame sign as submitted.
Staff Comment
The Ione objection to the proposed a-frame sign had to do with its content; advertising
job opportunities. The board member felt that approval of such a sign set a precedent
that he did not agree with.
Proposal
The applicant proposes to place a 3'X2' black plastic a-frame sign outside of her
storefront.

Dear Members of the Design Review Board:
I am proposing to add a portable A frame sign in front of my business. The sign
will be and is internally weighted with sand so it is stable.
I am attaching the exact poster with A frame that I am proposing. A local artist
created the said poster to suit our business's values and style. The poster will
blend into to the black A frame.
I would like to locate the sign next to the tree planter near the entrance as shown
on the attached plan. This location meets the minimum 5 ft clearance and is
within 10 ft of the entrance.
The building has a common entrance and Life Alive shares it with the cafe next-
door and residential condominiums in the 2 n 3'd and 4th floor.
I look forward to discussing my proposal with you at the next DRB meeting.
