A photo of the existing sign bracket with an image of the proposed sign inserted over the existing sign is enclosed. The existing sign was erected by Barnett Mortgage Corporation, later Baron Mortgage Corporation,which occupied the ground floor space(Suite 101)facing Essex Street. A copy of the sign application for the existing sign is included with this letter. To my knowledge the application was approved and the sign erected in conformance therewith. The Chamber of Commerce will be occupying the space vacated by Baron Mortgage. The Prince Professional Center is a historically significant building and was a historic rehabilitation project that our family undertook as both developer and contractor in the mid 1980's. We have owned and operated the building for more than 20 years and have diligently maintained its appearance. When the existing sign was originally approved we conditioned the installation so as not to compromise the granite facing on the facade of the building. As you can see from photo we have provided,and you are free to examine for yourselves,the bottom of the sign bracket is just above the top of the granite. Moving or removing the existing bracket will leave the facade of the building scarred which no amount of repair would erase. Further,the bracket cannot be lowered to bring the height of the sign into compliance because there is storefront glass directly below and no place to secure the bracket. In order to maintain the integrity of the building, and since the existing sign had previously been approved,we would respectfully request a waiver to allow the existing bracket to remain in its present location and a new sign for the Chamber of Commerce be installed in place of the current Baron Mortgage sign.
