The proposal has also been revised to conform to the DRB conditions with the exception of the neon signs which are prohibited. At the DRB meeting, the applicant indicated the portable sign would be located flush against the building. However, the image submitted shows it by the Almy's clock. The applicant will need to confirm the location. Staff recommends SRA approval be contingent upon removal of the neon signs at this location and at the 7 Central Street location. Approval of the portable sign is contingent upon the applicant stating in writing where the sign will be located. Proposal to DRB The submission includes the sign drawing, plans, and photographs. The proposal includes a wall sign, blade sign, window lettering, neon signs, and a portable sign. The wall sign is proposed to be 21" x 96" and is a blue and white photographic image with red and white lettering. The blade sign is the same design as the wall sign and is proposed to be 24" x 36". The two blocks of white window lettering are 9" x 40" and 14" x 40". The neon signs are 6" x 30" and 6" x 26" and are blue. The portable sign is 36" x 24". The location is not included in the submission. Salem Redevelopment Authority The business is permitted a total of 20 square feet of signage. The complete proposal totals 28.72 square feet. Neon signs are prohibited within the Urban Renewal Area except for entertainment, recreation, eating, drinking, hotels, and lodging establishments. When the neon signs are deducted, the total sign area is 26.39 square feet.
