Dear Ms. Nigro-Beland:
This letter is in reference to your inquiry regarding the requirement for a surety bond at
60 Essex Street. Since the sign has been removed, and is no longer over a public way or
sidewalk, there is no need for a surety bond to save harmless the City from any potential
liability claims. Therefore, the City no longer requires a$1,000 surety bond for your
building located at 60 Essex Street.
Please be advised that if you decide to replace the sign,you will be required to file for a
sign permit and must submit a new$1,000 surety bond with the City Clerk.

As we discussed,when I first opened my office in Salem,I had a sign that hung
over the sidewalk held by a bracket and chain. Because of the nature ofi
the sign, I was
required to post a bond of$1,000.00. I have since removed that sip gn and I am requesting
a letter stating that a bond is no longer required.

Dear Ms.Talkowsky:
I have enclosed an application to erect a sign on the above referenced property.
The sign would be a right angle, wood sign 2 feet by 3 feet in diameter. It would be
attached by a metal bracket a picture of which is enclosed. The colors are a blue base (the
same color as the doors) with gold lettering. A color sample is enclosed. I have
enclosed a sample of the sign's graphics and a photo of the house as requested.
Please let me know if there is anything further you need. I can be reached at the
number listed below. A check for the application fee is enclosed.
