Recommendation At its meeting on July 27, 2016 the Design Review Board voted unanimously (5-0) to recommend approval of the proposed installation of signage (including A-Frame sign), and outdoor seating area. Frame of the a-frame sign may be wood grain as proposed, or black, silver, or red. Proposal The applicant proposes to install 1/4 inch thick black acrylic letters on 1 inch standoff studs above his storefront entrance. The tallest letters will be 18 inches high and the total dimensions are 27" high by 70" wide. The applicant would also like to have a 24" wide by 33 W high black chalkboard a- frame sign with wood framing. The sign will be placed 8' from a set of tables and chairs, allowing for more than 5' of clearance for pedestrians, and within 10' of the entrance. Com lies? Portable Sign Requirements Y N I ? It is critical for my restaurant to attract some of the heavy foot traffic from Derby Street. Although our location is so close to the main downtown areas, it is easy to miss because the building itself has no distinctive characteristics. The features that are requested in this letter will greatly help my visibility to the many passersby that might otherwise not notice my business. They will be done aesthetically and will not only benefit us, but also the city of Salem as well. Business Signage: Main Sign: As shown in the included documents the sign will be congruent with the signs of surrounding businesses and will be quite simple in form. Designed and installed by Gorilla Printing,the sign will be made from Y4 inch thick black acrylic pieces attached to the existing grey colored sign board with 1 inch pins. The already existing black goose neck lights will provide illumination when it is too dark to see. The sign will be 27 inches in length and 70 inches in diameter located directly above the entrance. A-Frame Sign: With permission,there will be an A-Frame Chalkboard Sign as well. My restaurant will have many daily and seasonal specials and it is quite important for me to be able to advertise my menu items as they change frequently. The sign will be positioned in a way that meets city and will not interfere with pedestrians. Outdoor Seatina: Tables and Chairs: There will be two 24 x 24 silver colored tables set on metal bases flush against the building(as shown in attachments). The chairs used will each take up an area of 22 x 22 and be made from red painted aluminum. Each table will be set with two chairs.The placement of the tables and chairs will follow code and allow enough room between restaurant patrons and passing pedestrians.
