Condition: • All sign backings must be yellow • All lettering must be black • All signage must fit height-wise to the height of the windows identified on the building • Applicant must return to the DRB and SRA for any changes to position or appearance of the sign, whether or not it is facilitated by the addition of a new tenant in the space next door. The enclosed packet reflects a final proposal that was ultimately vetted by DRB Member Glenn Kennedy. There will be two signs: • One building sign (drawing A) that will be posted vertically on the building's fagade to the left of windows that are above the applicant's location. The sign will be split in two. Total square footage for this signage is 18 square feet. • One blade sign (drawing C) to the right of said windows, which will be a total of 8.5 square feet. Design Review Board Recommendation On September 25, 2013 the DRB voted unanimously to approve the applicant's proposed signage at 209 Essex Street, rear (Salem CyberSpace) on the following conditions: 1. That all "backers" for the signage be yellow, and for all lettering to be black. 2. DRB Member Glenn Kennedy will provide final review of all signage prior to presentation at the SRA. r Salem e Redevelopment ® Authority Staff Comment The applicant has adhered to all conditions stipulated in the DRB's recommendation. The proposed signage complies with the City's sign ordinance. Proposal for September 25 DRB Meeting The applicant has made revisions to the proposal, which are noted on the fifth page of the packet. The proposal now calls for two (as opposed to three) signs—the sign that was to be erected on the Derby Square side of the building has now been eliminated. The proposal notes changes in the dimensions and height of remaining signage, as well as the lettering to be affixed to the sign backing. Staff Comment The applicant agreed to two of the below conditions approved by the Board at the August 28`h meeting —the height of the blade sign being reduced to 6'6" and the lettering on that sign being changed to black. DRB Recommendation from August 28, 2013 Meeting On August 28 the DRB voted to approve the proposed blade sign for 209 Essex Street (Salem Cyberspace) as shown on the submitted "Drawing C," conditional upon the following: • The lettering be black as opposed to royal blue • The height of the sign be reduced to 66" The DRB also voted to continue the issue of the rest of the proposed signage. The applicant has elected to produce a revised proposal and will not proceed with presenting the approved sign to the SRA until all signage has been approved. Proposal for August 28 DRB Meeting Included in this proposal are a photo of existing conditions, a map pointing out where the storefront is located, and four drawings detailing proposed signage. The applicant proposes to erect three (3) separate signs at their place of business. They are: 1.) A building sign (really two separate building signs that will be treated as one sign) that will be affixed above and to the left (if facing the front door) of the door. The total area of this signage will be 26 sq/ft. It will read "Salem Cyberspace". 2.) A building sign that will be affixed on the west side of the building (facing Derby Square). It will only read "Cyberspace." It will be about eight (8) sq/ft and about flush with the existing maroon awning that faces south. Salem ® Redevelopment Authority 3,) A vertical projecting sign with vertical text reading "Cyberspace" to be hung above and to the right (if facing the storefront) of the place of business. The sign will be affixed to the building with "simple black metal brackets" above and below the sign. All of the signs will be metal (yellow background), with dark blue plastic letters. Staff Comment The proposed signs are compliant with the City's sign ordinance. e: Salem Redevelopment Authority Salem Redevelopment Authority Proposal October 9, 2013 209 Essex Street, Rear (Salem CyberSpace): Discussion and vote on proposed signage The enclosed packet reflects a final proposal that was ultimately vetted by DRB Member Glenn Kennedy.
