SRA DECISION:
At their meeting on February 21, 2007, the SRA voted to approve the DRB
recommendation, with the modifications presented,and approve the waiver of the
sign ordinance to allow vertical lettering on the sign.
DRB RECOMMENDATION:
At their meeting on January 24, 2007, the DRB recommended approval of the sign
with the following conditions: the bracket of the hanging sign is modified to be
lighter than what was proposed; the wall sign be moved to the area closer to the
building edge and aligned so that the bottom of the sign aligns with the bottom of
the stone lentil of the windows;and the mounting bolts for the wall mounted sign be
concealed. These changes are reflected in the modified drawings.
PROPOSAL:
The proposal includes the installation of two signs. The first sign includes a 30" x
36" hanging sign along Front Street,which will be attached to the building with a
black steel bracket. The sign will have three-dimensional steel hoops attached in the
dress cutout and have vinyl vertical black lettering. The second sign will be a 24" x
72" wall sign facing the rear parking lot along HIop Alley. The sign will have three-
dimensional steel hoops attached in the dress cutout and have black vinyl lettering.
NOTE: The SRA will need to approve a waiver of the sign ordinance to allow for
vertical lettering on the Front Street sign.

.Attached is a sign application fort.Mode at 17 Front Street. The sign, as proposed, does not
meet the SRA Sign Regulations. The lettering on the sign reads vertically which is prohibited
(SRA Sign Manual, p. D-13, Section III E. "Lettering on any sign shall not read vertically.").
The owner of the business is requesting a waiver of the SRA sign ordinance to allow the
vertical lettering. The DRB reviewed the sign and felt the vertical lettering works with this
sign because it is a short name that is easy to read. They recommended approval of the sign
with the modifications reflected in the attached proposal.
