Dear Members of the Design Review Board,
Vinnin Square Apartment Homes is proposing to erect a fixed display sign in front of our Carol
Way apartment building. The sign will be 63"x72' and professionally installed into the ground.
As seen in the attached dimensional model,the sign will have a 39" wood frame painted silver
and black with black and white lettering. Font style will be "Geometr415 Md BT". The
apartment complex name will occupy the top 26"of the sign and the bottom 13"will provide the
telephone number and website of our complex.
The sign would be installed in the grass area located at the comer of Loring Ave and Carol Way.
(see attached pictures)

Good Morning Matthew,
The subject property is a residential district(113). 1 attached copy of Section 4 St) from the code of ordinances as it is
regarding limitations in residential districts. As I mentioned on the phone:
In any residential district as defined in the zoning ordinance, there shall not be any sign except as follows:
One sign, not exceeding two square feet in total area, attached to the building or on a rod or post not more than four
feet high and at least three feet in from the street line, and stating only the street number or name of the occupant of the lot
or both
It appears that we could permit the sign if you reduce the size of the sign to two square feet in area on a post no more
than 4 feet in height and remove the phone number and website. However,as proposed it would need a variance from
Section 4-50.
Per Section 4-44: The board of appeals may vary the sections of this article in specific cases which appear to it not to
have been contemplated by this article and when its enforcement would involve practical difficulties or unnecessary
hardship if, in each instance, desirable relief may be granted without substantially derogating from the intent and
purpose of this article, but not otherwise. Sections of this article may be varied only by a decision of four of the five
members of the board, which shall specify any variance allowed and the reasons therefor. Each decision of the board of
appeals shall be filed in the office of the city clerk within 30 days after the hearing, and a copy of the decision shall be
sent by mail or delivered to the appellant and any other person appearing at the hearing and so requesting in writing.
Failure to file such a decision within 30 days after the hearing shall be deemed to be approval of any variance sought.
