302 Essex Street, Suite B (Moon Baby): Discussion and vote on proposed installation
of signage and painting of existing sign band.
Recommendation
At its meeting on May 24, 2017 the Design Review Board voted unanimously (7-0) to
recommend approval of the proposed installation of signage and removal of an existing
sign band at 302 Essex Street, Suite B (Moon Baby) as presented. The bracket for the
signage shall be mounted at the same height/level as the sign bracket for Suite A at the
same address.
Proposal
The applicant seeks to install a 3'x3' PVC round blade sign mounted on a black metal
bracket with painted white typeface and design against a black background. There will
be a small accessory Wx24" sign appended below the round blade sign. Finally, the
applicant will have a 30"x30" round vinyl decal in the storefront window furthest from the
store's main entrance. This applicant will be located in the unit shown on the left side of
the two storefronts.
Each existing sign band above the storefronts will be removed.
Staff Comment
I have expressed to this applicant that her application is lacking some detail that we
would want to see:
1.) How high will the bottom of the sign be from the ground?
2.) Method of attachment to the bracket?
3.) Color photoshopped perspective showing where the sign will hang.
4.) Any details on window signage.
In an effort to enable the applicant to move ahead with planning for the store I had her
placed on the agenda, but requested that more information be provided to the Board at
the meeting.

We at Moon Baby Hair&Wares are very excited to join all of the other wonderful businesses on Essex St. We
can't wait to show Salem what we have to offer.
We had asked for suggestions from other business owners when it was time to start designing signage. All
signs pointed to Concept Signs. When talking to Ken, we wanted to really have signs that would catch the eye.
That is why we decided to do two contrasting colors and raised lettering. Per his suggestion, we will be taking
down the existing sign holders on the building to assure our hanging signs fit the requirements once installed.
The window decals were designed to be seen from the street and by people on foot. They can be resized to
meet the requirements. We can't wait to be a part of Salem's thriving downtown district. Thank you so much for
the opportunity to present this proposal.
