RE: Zoning Problem
Dear Mr. Russell:
This Department has received and investigated complaints regarding the running of your
Construction Business from your house.
Salem Zoning Ordinance, Section 5-2 defines an R-2 zone as residential one and two
family zone. Business uses are not allowed.
Salem General Ordinances, Section 24-21.1 allows the owner of a residential property to
park one commercial vehicle that is less than 10,000 GVW on the property. City of
Salem Traffic ordinance prohibits the parking of commercial vehicles in a residential
zone.
Therefore, you are directed to cease the commercial activities at your property within 30
days upon receipt of this letter.
Failure to comply will result in a complaint being filed in Salem District Court and daily
fines.
If you wish to appeal the Zoning interpretation, you appeal is to the Salem Zoning Board.

the State Building Code, I, as the owner, hereby request an
inspection of the premises at 6-8Shore Ave. ,
and the issuance of a Use and Occupancy Certificate.
Entry to the premises may be obtained by contacting
R. W. Carlson Assoc. , Inc. should you determine that an
inspection is necessary or desired.
Will you kindly acknowledge that you have received this
letter by signing and dating the attached copy, and returning
it to me in the .enclosed envelope.

also giving our use and occupancy permission.
Perhaps you have sent this letter to the
owner at 38 Chestnut Street in Salem, Mass.
They have not advised me that they have
received it, if this is the case, please
disregard this letter.
Enclosed you will also find a request for
a Use and Occupancy Permit at 6 & 8 Shore,
Avenue.
If there is still a problem with 3"8 Chestnut
Street, please advise us as soon as possible.
