Recommendation
At its meeting on October 25, 2017 the Design Review Board voted unanimously (6-0)
to recommend approval of an a-frame sign at 5 Central Street (Aroma Sanctum) as
proposed.
Proposal
The applicant seeks approval to place an a-frame sign outside of her storefront. The
sign is a standard black plastic framed sign with a 2'x3' sign area. A design for the sign
is included in the enclosed materials. The applicant plans to place the sign within eight
feet of her storefront entrance, in a planting bed.

the DRB has in the past approved the placement of an a-frame sign in a planting bed
(New England Dog Biscuit Company), which is a neighbor of Aroma Sanctum's.

I am proposing to add a portable A-frame sign in front of my business. The sign will be 2'X 3'and will be
internally weighted with sand for stability.
The sign frame will be of black plastic, with the enclosed graphic on both sides. The background is green to
match my over the door sign, with my business name/logo in yellow gold, and a color photo.
I would like to locate the sign in a landscaped area in front of the business-it will not be on the sidewalk or
block any walkways.This location meets the minimum 5' clearance and is within 10'of the entrance.
The building has 3 retail businesses, all with separate entrances. Mine is the one in the middle and is the
smallest.

On June 25, 2003, the Design Review Board recommended approval of the proposed sign
for the building located at 5 Central Street. The proposal consists of a '/2" thick PVC
hanging sign with a decorative metal bracket. The proposed sign is 17' x 30" and includes a
green background with gold lettering.
At the request of the Design Review Board, the applicant agreed to change the shape and
location of the metal bracket to match the historic metal brackets on the building. In
addition, the applicant agreed to change the typography to improve the legibility of the sign.
Based on these amendments, the Design Review Board recommended approval of the sign.
