Dear Mr. Powers:
We have a situation that has been going on for quite sometime
concerning the garages at 55 Salem Street. This problem does not
seem to concern our city councellors. This part of our neighbor-
hood is turning into a junk yard.
Checos Dominguez, owner of Audets Market, 24 Palmer Street,
also owns the garages at 55 Salem Street. A commercial garage is
being operated from this area, an area not zoned for a commercial
garage.
Cars are constantly on the sidewalk. We have had the police
come and speak to them but they can only do so much. .,-The minute
the police leave, the cars are moved back onto the sidewalk.
Constantly, cars are being mechanically worked on and repaired on
the sidewalk by Angel Dominguez. Everyday of the week we are
subject to constant hammering and banging noise; with no concern
to the area residents.
As many as four cars have been on the sidewalk at one time
with their hoods up and jacked up. Oil has been poured on the
sidewalk and street leaving terrible stains. When Mr. Dominguez '
and his other workers are there, they drink beer leaving the
empties on the sidewalk and in the street. Worn parts are left
on the sidewalk for days for the junk collector. These conditions
are fire hazards. Cars and vans that cannot be moved are left on
the sidewalks for days.
A great concern is the elderly and children walking to church
on Saturday' s and Sunday' s. They are forced to walk in the street
because there is no room on the sidewalk.
Our property value is decreasing because of this unsightly
condition. We have not n.dentified ourselves because we fear these
men. We home owners of this area are tired of this happening--
please do something.
