Dear Ms. Guy,
Thank you for speaking with me earlier today regarding my request for permission to
install a vent in the exterior of 8 Winthrop St. I am writing to apply for a certificate
of non-applicability for alteration of 8 Winthrop St. This property is located in the
McIntyre Historic Distric. The original building construction date was circa 1840.
I am proposing to install a 4-inch exterior cap for an exhaust vent above the bathroom
window on the first floor of the house. The location of the vent is not visible from the
street or sidewalk due to the height of several bushes beside the house. These bushes do
not shed their leaves in the winter. As I mentioned over the phone, the bushes sometimes
are weighed down by snow in the winter. The vent cap will be painted light blue to match
the color of the house's aluminum siding. I am attaching a photograph of a neighbor's fl-
inch exterior cap, as well as 3 photos of 8 Winthrop St. In the photograph showing the
entire side view of the house, you will see a single window at the back. of the second
floor. My bathroom window is below that window and a bit to the left.
I know that there is an application form for a certificate of non-applicability, and I
will be happy to mail you a copy if it is necessary. I've attempted to cover all the
information in this email. Also, if necessary, I am willing to apply for a certificate of
appropriateness.
