There are three existing sections of fence; each in a state of decay and each in a different style (see Attachment 1 for locations). a. With the property of 10 Andover Street, we share an approximately 4 foot boarder that is currently delineated with an unattached section of stockade fencing. b. With the property of 10 Lynn Street we share an approximately 40 foot fenced boarder. In this section, the fence is 44" tall with round posts and flat 2 '/z" pickets spaced 114" inches apart. There are posts and pickets missing and some back boards are broken. c. With the property of 12 Lynn Street we share an approximately 20 foot fenced boarder. In this section, the fence is 44"tall with square posts and flat 2 %" pickets spaced 2 %2" inches apart. There are pickets missing in this section. We proposed to replace all three of these sections with an open picket fence with a colonial cap painted the same light cream color as our house. The proposed fence would be the same height as the existing fence (44") with the same size pickets (2 %2") and spacing (3/4") as the second section of fence. All posts will be replaced with 4"x 4"uncapped posts and a Brosco fence cap will be added along the top of the pickets. We have included a fence plan (Attachment 2) with fence cap detail (Attachment 3) and photos of the existing fence both from a public way (the sidewalk in front of 12 Lynn Street) and from private locations (from our yard and from the yard behind 10 Lynn Street). Please let us know if we can provide further clarification prior to the April 61h meeting. Our number at home is 978-741-2433. Two Examples of Our Venting Systems Shown above THE 8 RULES OF CHIMNEY FIRE SAFETY 1. Be sure the chimney support box, which 1 will support up to 35 ft. of chimney, is well mounted. The full weight of your chimney is on that box. 2. Is your chimney a SAFE DISTANCE from combustibles? Fire codes demands at least 2 inch clearance between a chimney and anything that burns-walls, furniture, anything. In the attic, insulation must be kept away from the chimney. The attic insulation shield does that. 3. Chimney support box, firestop radiation shield, and wall thimble protect ceiling and wall penetrations. So be sure they are installed correctly. 4. All twist-lock chimneyjoints must be locked. Make sure they are. 5 Never use heating duct vent pipe as stovepipe. Stovepipe is safe for the heat of a wood or coal fire- Vent pipe is not. 6. Keep your chimney CLEAN. Do not let flammable creosote deposits form. This tarlike stuff burns red hot when it catches fire, so don't ignore it. Inspect your chimney for creosote once a month and clean it at least once a year. 7. DO NOT OVERFIRE your stove by overloading it with wood-and do not stuff it with large amounts of paper scraps. corrugated boxes, Christmas wrappings, etc.. Moreover,NEVER burn flammable liquids in your stove. Finally, store ashes in a metal container outdoors. Embers can continue to glow for as long as 24 hours. 8. Follow installation instructions carefully, and get your chimney inspected by your local building or fire inspector to insure a safe installation that meets insurance requirements.
