NOTICE OF DENIAL OF APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF
APPROPRIATENESS
RE: 1-3 North Pine Street
On Wednesday, January 5, 1994 , the Salem Historical Commission
unanimously voted to deny a Certificate of Appropriateness from
Pottery Realty Trust for the replacement of doors at the front
entry of 1-3 North Pine Street in substitution of doors already
installed without Commission approval and to confirm the
elimination of sidelights and transom lights which was also
undertaken without prior Commission approval . The Commission found
that the sidelights, transom amd relative dimensions were an
important component of the double entryway and ordered that within
60 days the applicant submit a new application to restore the
entryway.

NOTICE OF DENIAL OF APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF HARDSHIP
RE: 1-3 North Pine Street
On Wednesday, June 16 , 1993, the Salem Historical Commission
unanimously voted to deny an application for a Certificate of
Hardship from Pottery Realty Trust for the replacement a front
entryway as has already been altered. The denial was due to such
replacement being inappropriate to the Historic District and that
a hardship was not legally justified. The Commission further
instructs the owner to either restore the entryway as it existed
before the alteration or to submit a new application for a more
historically appropriate treatment.
