BUILDING FORM ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of the building in terms of other buildings within the community. 10 Lynn Street is a 2 1/2-story, 5 x 2-bay, wood-frame building which is rectangular in plan and set with its narrow gable end to the street. The house is sSeathed in vinyl siding and rests on a foundation of granite blocks with some brick infill. The gable roof is sheathed in asphalt shingles and the eaves are close on the gable end. Centered on the south elevation is a modem metal door with an exterior storm door. It is capped by a semi-elliptical fanlight divided into four parts. Pilasters support a broken pediment above the fanlight. Windows contain 2/2 sash with storm windows and shutters. A single original window containing 8/8 sash survives in the attic. Extending to the east of the main block is a two-story wing, measuring two bays across. A late 19th century glass and panel door accesses the front and a hip wall dormer rises from the front roof slope. The house sits directly on the sidewalk with an asphalt driveway extending in front of the house. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Describe the history of the building. Explain its associatrons with local (or state)history. Include uses of the building and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. This house appears to date to the late 18th or early 19th century although its early history is not known at this time. Levis B. Moody is shown as the owner on the 1874 map. The proprietor of a store selling fancy goods and newspapers at 131 Washington Street, Moody had moved to Federal Street by 1886. Soon thereafter, the house apparently began to serve a multi-family use. The owner of&e property was Isabel McGolgan in 1897;the other unit in that year was occupied by Patrick Maguire, a morocco dresser. The 1911 map shows the owner as John B. Conner although it appears that Conner rented out the house. Among the long-term occupants during this period was Timothy J. Moloney, employed as a carriage winter and leather worker, who lived in the house from 1903 until the 1950s. The Moloney family continued to own the property into the 1960s.
