RE: 387 Essex Street
On Wednesday, August 1, 2007, the Salem Historical Commission voted
unanimously to deny an app_ication for a Certificate of Appropriateness from
Dr. Stephen D. Hayes for the replacement of center stair railing on the front
of the building as has already been installed, due to being not historically
appropriate . The motion to deny requires that the railing be removed or a
new application for an appropriate replacement be submitted within 9 months
or prior to ownership transfer, whichever is sooner. I attest that this is
an accurate record of the vote taken, not amended or modified in any way to
this date.

Codes and/or City Ordinances: State Building code 780 C.M.R. section 111"Permits". A
Center railing has been installed recently. This department has no record of a Building
permit.Also, in order to apply for a permit, an approval must be obtained from the City
of salem Historical Commission. Please contact Jane Guy,in the Planning Dept., to begin
