Proposal:
• Install new 4'tall spaced picket fence with gate at rear of driveway on Hamilton Street
• Install new section to existing 6'tall solid board fence
Staff Memo to Historical Commission -June 5,2017
355 Essex Street
Page 2
Staff Comments:
The applicant, who is a renter at the property,is proposing to install new fencing around the property's rear yard. Due to the
building's location on the corner of Hamilton Street and an existing driveway, the rear yard is a small grass area located in the
southwest corner of the property. The applicant is proposing a new 4'tall spaced picket fence(see Photo 1 for proposed design)
along the eastern and northern edge of the rear yard adjacent to the driveway. This 4'tall fence would include 2 fence sections
(shown below in blue) and a 4'wide gate(shown in red). The applicant is also proposing to install a new 2'long section(shown
in purple)to the existing 6'tall fence that currently extends along the southern and western property boundaries. This new
section would match the existing flat board fence with cap rail design. It is unclear whether the applicant intends to paint the
spaced picket fence. The existing flat board fence is unpainted.
