The buildings which comprise the Peabody Block represent a
continuum of moderate scale American commercial architectural
styles from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The Block
includes two large brick Classic Revival buildings , facing

Washington Street, a Georgian Revival building facing .Essex Street ,
and two small brick buildings facing Barton Square, one a Renai-
