Dear Ms. Pollock:.
It has come to the attention of the Historical Commission that the
Park Service has erected scaffolding at the Derby House. Since the
building is located within the Derby St. Local Historic District, the
Commission has jurisdiction over any exterior changes visible from a
public way, but not over regular maintenance and repairs. Please provide
us with information about your plans for this structure either in writing
or at the Commission's next meeting on Wednesday, July 2nd. In addition,
we would like to know the status of your plans for Derby Wharf, which is
also located within the district.
Sincerely,

Dear Chairman Harris:
During Hurricane Gloria, the fall of 1985, the roof of the Derby House
flew off. A temporary plywood and tarpaper roof was immediately in-
stalled to protect the historic fabric.
We are now in the process of restoring the roof and the fence line
destroyed in the storm. (Just like "The Wizard of Oz.)
We hope to have the scaffolding removed as soon as safely possible.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Pollack
