Dear Condo Members:
Monday, July 24, 2006, assistant Building Inspector-Joe Barbeau and I inspected the rear
building at 131 Derby Street. The purpose of this inspection was to see first hand the
conditions outlined in Allan Vitukevich's (P.E.) letter dated July 17, 2006.
The workers were able to pull back the temporary rubber roof and the sheathing below to
allow a clear view. During this inspection,we took several photographs to confirm this
condition. The condition of the framing members, where they bear on the brick, creates
an unsafe structural condition. It is our opinion that the Engineer's letter very accurately
outlines the problems and the repairs required. We also agree, the garage roof is:"unsafe"
and repairs need to be engineered and implemented immediately. The building, as it
stands, does not meet the State Building Code. The gas service lines in the garage need to
be terminated during the construction process to ensure that a pipe will not be broken.
This Department will expedite the plan review and the permit issuance when plans are
received.
