I have withdrawn my application for a new or altered shed for this coming June 15th meeting. The installers are currently drilling holes in the back of the house. I may be back to you when the work is done. Thanks,Jack On Jun 1, 2011, at 9:03 AM, Tane Guy wrote: Hi, Not having heard otherwise, I hope that the certificate of non-applicability that you received to install the vents and move the existing shed slightly is sufficient. However, if you still want to alter the shed or replace the shed, I need to know by 11:00 am this morning if you want to be on the June 15th meeting agenda as I will need to post the required notification. If I do not hear from you by that time, I will conclude that the approval you already received is sufficient and that you have withdrawn the application for a new shed or for alterations to the existing shed. For the existing shed, I can include the existing being moved out a few inches. 6/1/2011 As far as a new shed with any type of venting through the roof, you would need to come before the board for review on June 15th. Let me know if you want to have this option. -Jane Jane A. Concerning the concealment of the new gas furnace intake and exhaust pipes I see the following options: 1. Move the current shed out a few inches and place the gas PVC pipes behind it. Advantage: I don't have to do anything either on the shed or getting approval of the Historical Commission. 2. Build a new shed of the same height as this one and enclose the pipes within the shed constructing a vent in the roof of the shed for the pipes. Advantage: The pipes are hidden even from the property owners. But I may have to get approval for the new shed from the Historical Commission because, with effort, it could be seen from the street. 3. Build a similar shed about 5 feet 5 inches high with the pipes enclosed and vents in the roof. Advantage: Since a passerby on the street doesn't even get doesn't even get a glimpse of this shed from the street, approval of its construction would only require your signature, if that, rather than approval of the entire Historic Commission. Let me know what you think . I'm shortly going out for a walk and will stop in at your office. If you are there we can discuss this matter. May 19 2011 Additional Info requested by Jane Guy so that the commission could grant permission on the June 1st meeting. 1. What is it I'm trying to conceal? Ans. I must hide four PVC pipes, two input and two exhaust pipes. All pipes are two inch pipes. Pipe dimensions are typically given as internal dimensions. Therefore, the outside dimensions of the pipes are about 2 1/2 inches. The will be a ninety degree bend at the top of the each pipe to keep the rain and snow out. The two intake pipes will be bent in the opposite direction of the two exhaust pipes and be at a different height, about two inches lower. The four pipes will be in a line two inches away from the brick siding of the base of the house. 2. The commission would like a catalog photo if possible. None available. 3. Where are the pipes coming out? The pipes will emerge from the house midway between the two window wells shown in the last photo, 40 IMG 0761.ine behind the tree. 4. Commission's concern about height restrictions Legally in Salem, Gas furnace exhaust and intake pipes must be at least "24" inches above the ground. This height requirement is driven by a starting point of 12 inches plus an allowance of 12 inches for snow in Eastern Massachusetts 1 4 CNESTNv 1' STRE F T Sic 120.1!
